Avery 5163 is a US Letter sheet of ten 2 x 4 inch labels, two columns by five rows. Nutrifax tiles your generated label onto that layout as a PDF. Print it at 100% with no scaling, run one page on plain paper first, and hold it against a label sheet before you commit label stock.
What you need
- a generated label in Nutrifax, in the format for your market
- the Avery 5163 sheet export, which needs Recipe Pro or Label Pro (single labels do not)
- Avery 5163 stock, or a compatible 2 x 4 inch, 10-per-sheet layout, in the right type for your printer (laser and inkjet stock differ)
- a printer that can print at actual size
Step by step
- Generate your label in Nutrifax. The Canadian standard table is rendered narrower for the sticker so it fits the 4 inch width.
- Choose the Avery 5163 sheet output and download the PDF.
- Open the PDF in a viewer with an "Actual size" or 100% option, not a browser preview that fits to page.
- Print one page on plain paper. Hold it over a label sheet against a window.
- Adjust the printer's paper size and scaling until the outlines match, then print one real sheet.
- Print the batch. If you change printers mid-run, repeat step 4.
Printer settings
- scaling: none, actual size, or 100%. "Fit to page" shrinks the layout a few percent and drifts every row
- paper size: US Letter (8.5 x 11 inch), not A4
- paper type: labels or heavy paper, so the feed does not slip
- feed direction: check which face and edge the tray prints first, and load the sheets the same way each time
Common problems
Every label is off by the same amount
Scaling. Check for "fit to page" or "shrink oversized pages", and check that the paper size is Letter.
Rows drift down the page
The printer is feeding the sheet slightly fast or slow, usually a paper-type setting. Set the tray to labels or heavy stock, and print one sheet at a time.
Text is clipped or cramped
The wrong variant for the sticker, or a scaled print. Regenerate the sheet from the current label and print at 100%.
Labels peel or smudge
Inkjet ink on laser stock, or the reverse. Match the stock to the printer.
What to do in Nutrifax
- regenerate the sheet whenever the label changes. A sheet from an old recipe version prints old numbers
- keep a note of the printer, tray, and settings that worked, with the sheet PDF
